Driving Change

Leadership & InfluenceHard1:30

Describe a time you drove a significant change in your team's processes, tools, or culture. How did you get buy-in, manage resistance, and ensure the change actually stuck?

The interviewer is looking for: your ability to identify when change is needed, your strategy for driving adoption, how you handled pushback, and whether the change had lasting impact.

How to approach it

  • Hint 1

Choose a change that was genuinely significant -- not just adopting a new linter, but something that required people to change how they work. The best examples involve cultural or process shifts, not just tool swaps.

  • Hint 2

Detail your change management approach: how did you build the case, who were your early adopters, how did you handle the skeptics? Show that you understood why people resisted and addressed their concerns rather than bulldozing through.

  • Hint 3

Describe both the short-term adoption and the long-term stickiness. Did the change last after you stopped actively pushing it? If not, what did you learn about sustainable change? Honest reflection on partial successes is more impressive than claiming everything was perfect.
